Birch trees in the same chunk as a birch gate will appear to have gates for leaves on logout/relog as the only person on multiplayer server.
Suggested resolutions:
Make gates collectable, call it a feature.
Acquire friends, don't play Minecraft alone on MP server
Polar opposite of previous solution; stay logged in ALL THE TIME. Disregard friends, acquire diamonds.
