items appear in Boots slot

If I have 1 of an item in my inventory and drop it using the keyboard when I pick it up it will appear in the boots slot. But if I drag the item outside the inventory space to drop it, it will appear in there straight away. This glitch only occurs if it had no stack to stack onto in my inventory
