Armor Attribute not working correctly

When you give yourself armor (I used leather armor) and you add more armor points then normal (I made the points same as diamond) the only the armor points from the top item will be applied. Means if you have only have a chestplate, you get the points correctly. But if you use chestplate and helmet you only get the points from the helmet
