Nether Displacement

What I expected to happen was...:
I expected to arrive in the nether at another portal.

What actually happened was...:
I appeared in the nether, no portal was generated on the other side.

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Go into Survival Mode.
2.Build a Nether portal with a 5x5 frame
3.Enter the portal.
