nether portals teleports you away from the destination portal

in a new world, survival mode, the first jump through a portal teleports you several hundred blocks away from where the destination portal.

this happened the first time I went from overworld to nether, and again the first time going back from nether to overworld. subsequent uses of portals seem fine so far.
