turn any non up-to-date resource packs off, also, f3+s has been merged with f3+t

ok, I have no resource packs but I will try the f3+t command

It didn't work, I have no idea what else it could be, like I said sound works on all other versions of Minecraft but the two latest snapshots. I might post a video on it to demonstrate the issue.

also other question, are you tying to get sounds from, for example, mining, ot do you try to get them via /playsound?

I don't believe I use that. I quickly searched online to find out about it but I don't use it as far as I'm aware.

Your Java version is a bit old.

Can you re-install Minecraft from https://minecraft.net/download using the .msi installer.

Thanks for your advice but I am sure I have the updated version of java and I did reinstall Minecraft and made sure I used the msi.Installer but that hasn't seemed to have worked.

Ok so I tried the link when it was first sent but I got no response when I typed my question in (I did wait quite a long time but then had to go. I tried the link again a few days ago but now it says the web page has been taken down or temporarily removed so for now that option is not viable. Again I believe this issue is a bug as opposed to a system fault since subtitles don't work either but then again that may just be me.

Try this please:

1. Close Minecraft
2. Open .minecraft
3. Rename options.txt to options_old.txt
4. Restart Minecraft
5. See if it works

I gave these above steps a go but that did not work either.

Same bug affects me, but I am able to fix it by force-reloading resource pack (F3+t).

I tried F3+t but that never worked.

Do you have any antivirus? If so, can you add minecraft.net to the whitelist? (I had some missing sounds in previous versions, and it was fixed this way)

Oddly, it's worked fine for me but suddenly in 15w47a there is no sounds.
Except for my custom resource pack sounds, but if I turn off my resource pack there is no sound at all.

EDIT: Sounds are back for me in 15w47b!

I've lost my sound again in 15w51b.

I have also encountered this bug.
However a few odd things to note, I was not affected by this bug until 16w04a when my sounds and subtitles suddenly stopped working. It has since been in every snapshot since. I decided to go back and check 16w03a, a version not previously affected for me, but the sounds and subtitles are now no longer working in that snapshot either. I've gone back to test, the earliest snapshot that is affected by this bug is 15w43c (I'm guessing actually 15w43b, when subtitles were added, but I can't select that in the launcher).
Every version before subtitles were added works perfectly, including 1.8.

Ok, so I loaded up Minecraft this afternoon and went onto 1.9 and lone behold sound now seems to work as does the subtitles. I am pretty sure there has been no new updates for Minecraft since the full release and therefore I can only conclude there was a system fault. The change I have made with my system was to uninstall a program called relevant knowledge which is apparently a piece of adware found on many machines. You can find it in your program lists, I uninstalled it and that could've been affecting Minecraft (just a theory but it is worth a try).

My sound was working fine before I changed sound devices in-game (I plugged in my headphones). Minecraft will no longer use my headphones. I could use them fine before, and even the laptop speakers as well (the laptop speakers only work now). I've reloaded the resource pack, reloaded the game, and restarted the computer.

EDIT - Re-installing the headphones (remove device, plug in through USB) nor re-installing Minecraft (and ensuring the deletion of the .minecraft files as well), did not work.

EDIT2 - I found that Minecraft was muted in the Windows Volume Mixer.

Is this still an issue in the latest snapshot 16w44a? If so please update the affected versions.

Sound seems to be working fine for me in 1.10 and 1.11; occasionally the game starts with sounds off but F3+T always fixes the issue.

Is anyone still getting this issue in 1.11 or the 1.12 snapshots? I'm only getting MC-9974, where sounds sometimes don't initialize but can be fixed by F3+T.
