When piston retracts the base of the piston texture disappears. This seems to be happening with both normal pistons and sticky pistons. Works in all directions.

Does the block go invisible? Can you still see the black outline when you point your mouse at the piston base? Does the block become visible again after some time?
It seems as though the block disappears, because the hitbox goes through the piston. I uploaded a screenshot, also it reappears pretty fast.

Does MC-54546 describe your issue?
Here I added this screen recording to show what is happening. I think it is similar to MC-54546 but not the same.
