Potions of weakness broken

Drinking a potion of weakness works fine, however throwing ether a lingering potion / splash potion of weakness throws a splash water potion instead with no effects other than putting out water (as a splash potion of water should). What should happen: throwing a splash potion of weakness should throw a splash potion of weakness and give the weakness affect. Same for the lingering potion, except that it should be lingering
