Trying to equip an Elytra causes a crash

When trying to equip an Elytra using right-click, the Elytra won't be equipped and Minecraft crashed. Tested both in Creative and Survival mode.

What I expected to happen was:
When right-clicking with an Elytra, the Elytra is moved to the chestplate slot.

What actually happened was:
Minecraft crashed with providing the following crash report:

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Grab an Elytra from the Creative inventory and put it on your hotbar
2. Select the Elytra in the hotbar and right-click it

PS: I searched for "Elytra right click" and "Elytra equip" and could not find any other bug reports which discribe this issue. I'm sorry if this is a duplicate issue.
