Client can always use food to reduce temper of horses, llamas and donkeys, ignoring animal's temper value

The bug

When a horse has a temper of 100 the player can still feed it client-side. However once the inventory is updated, the item count corrects itself.

To reproduce

  1. Feed an untamed horse with a stack of golden carrots

  2. Open your inventory

  3. Click onto the slot where the stack of golden carrots was
→ ❌ Some of the carrots reappear

How does one update the inventory to correct the item count? I can get untamed horses to keep eating food even after they don't need it anymore, but I haven't seen the count correct itself before. (1.10.2 & 16w43a)

@unknown, just drop or move the remaining items or click on the slot they were in (if you "used" all of them). Also you can just relog into the world

Okay. I spent a stack of 64 Golden Apples on an untamed horse, down to 4 left, but after relogging it still indicates 4 apples left.
(This was done on a single player, local world)

Do you get any errors in the Game Output (the forth tab of the launcher) after moving the apples?
If the launcher closes after game start, please edit your profile and select "Launcher visibility" then "Keep the launcher open"

Alright, I saw the stacks reset (there were no errors by the way). I must not have been trying very hard to reset it before...
In any case, 16w43a can be added.

In 1.17.1, the items actually disappear and don't come back to the inventory (I think this is blocked by MC-233276).

Fixed alongside MC-233276.
