Minecraft Crashes with EXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION and Failed to write core dump

Please help, I have spent days on this this. My daughter is a Minecraft fanatic. She plays Mods but I have done all my testing unmodded on fresh installs. I have seen many similar issues but no solutions that work for me.

I keep getting an 'EXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION' message along with 'Failed to write core dump' when playing Mincraft 1.8 All details below.

This program used to work fine on this PC. Now it crashes every time, normally very quickly but at least within 2 mins of starting a world.

I have reinstalled the program countless times.
Used the very latest and many alternative editions of Java. (32 and 64 bit)
Used the very latest and many alternative editions of Nvidia drivers
I am currently running Windows 10 but the problems started on Windows 7. I updated to 8, 8.1 and now 10. (Repeating the above)
I ran system diagnostics, RAM, Hard disk etc come back fine but I've changed the RAM and Hard disk anyway
I have dumbed down the graphics settings in Minecraft to no avail.
I have scoured the internet and tried all sorts of wierd and wonderful suggestions.
My graphics card is supported ... GForce 330M. i5 processor, 4gb of RAM in a Sony Vaio laptop.

Although Java detects the issue I'm not sure it is a Java problem as such, the saying don't shoot the messenger comes to mind.

I am at my wits end with this, please help me 🙂

This is my DxDiag log showing my system spec

This is the error I get:

Brief version pasted -

A fatal error has been detected by the Java Runtime Environment:
#

  1. EXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION (0xc0000005) at pc=0x0000000058476609, pid=6992, tid=6836
    #

  2. JRE version: Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment (8.0_25-b18) (build 1.8.0_25-b18)

  3. Java VM: Java HotSpot(TM) 64-Bit Server VM (25.25-b02 mixed mode windows-amd64 compressed oops)

  4. Problematic frame:

  5. C [nvoglv64.DLL+0x9d6609]
    #

  6. Failed to write core dump. Minidumps are not enabled by default on client versions of Windows
    #

I put my PC back to optimum settings, latest drivers, java etc. I can only think that now something has been introduced into the latest Minecraft download that now stops it working on my machine as I never had trouble before.

Other games work fine Sims 3 and 4 etc. but I tested on fresh installs of windows and minecraft.

This is a crash with the Java Virtual Machine (JVM) and thus outside the scope of the game. Your report indicates nvoglv64.DLL is causing the crash, which is an nvidia library. You likely have to update your graphics drivers.
