Top slabs glitch and become bottom slabs

Sometimes when I am placing top slabs, they will glitch down and become bottom slabs. This is not me misplacing into the bottom half of a block. It happens when placing on the sides of other top slabs too. I don't know if this happens in 1.9 or single player
