Nintendo Switch 2 – Inventory slots become unselectable in the compact UI

When playing Minecraft Dungeons II on Nintendo Switch 2, after playing for a longer period of time, some inventory slots in the compact UI (the smaller inventory menu that does not fill the entire screen) become bugged and can no longer be selected.

This has happened to us while playing with 2 or more players, usually after we have been playing for a long time.

The problem appears when trying to select an item slot in the compact inventory menu. The affected slot cannot be selected, so we cannot change or equip the item in that slot.

The issue can be worked around by switching the UI to full-screen size. When the inventory UI is displayed in full-screen mode, the affected slots can be selected normally and the item can be changed.

So far, this has only happened to us with item slots. We have not experienced the same problem with:

  • Weapons

  • Armor

  • Amulets

The slots that become unresponsive are most commonly the item slots.

Steps to reproduce:

  1. Start Minecraft Dungeons II on Nintendo Switch 2.

  2. Play a multiplayer session with 2 or more players.

  3. Continue playing for an extended period of time.

  4. Open the inventory using the compact/smaller UI.

  5. Try to select an item slot.

  6. One or more item slots may become unselectable.

  7. Change the UI size to full-screen.

  8. Open the inventory again.

  9. The previously affected item slot can now be selected normally.

Expected behavior:

All inventory slots should remain selectable regardless of the UI size or how long the multiplayer session has been running.

Actual behavior:

After a long multiplayer session, some item slots in the compact UI become unresponsive and cannot be selected. Switching to the full-screen UI allows the same slots to be selected normally.

Additional information:

This has occurred multiple times during multiplayer sessions on Nintendo Switch 2. We have not experienced the issue with weapon, armor, or amulet slots; so far, the problem appears to specifically affect item slots.

The issue seems to occur after playing for a considerable amount of time rather than immediately after starting a session.

Thank you for helping us improve Minecraft! We saved your files:

I am seeing this exact issue on Windows 11 (through the Minecraft Launcher) as well, also with 2 (local) players.
