A map progression skip is possible in "The Silence in Little Howl"

I made it to the end of the quest “The Silence in Little Howl”, with the prompt “Return to the Overworld”. I saw a ledge near the portal however to another part of the map within the rift so I tried rolling across the gap and it worked. A screenshot of the mentioned gap is attached below.

Across this gap is I believe an unintended area for me to reach at this point in the game. I found things such as a portal in the center area however was unable to interact with it. I found a minecart warp that let me warp out of there to avoid being softlocked however.
