Massive FPS drop with new launcher

I've had a notable FPS drop since I've installed and launched minecraft using the new, mandatory launcher. I've attached a screenshot of my snooper screen from the old launcher and the new one, from almost 2000 fps to 25 using the same settings? Something is not right. Am I expecting a patch to address this issue in the future? Seeing as I am not the only one receiving an FPS drop.
