I just can't use the launcher. It doesn't wanna update. Therefore, I cannot play.

It worked with all the previous macOS 10.15 beta. So I don't know what happened. However, that may also only be an issue on this particular Mac I'm playing on.
After watching other reports it doesn't seem that I'm the only one.
For info, I have these error in the updater log
LauncherConfiguration.cpp(213)] Error opening: /Volumes/home/leonov/Library/Application Support/minecraft/launcher/.version, Error message: No such file or directory
PistonUpdate.cpp(403)] Update failed for: launcher.bundle/Contents/Resources/ui.zip, Error: Cross-device link
The .version file is indeed absent.
I tried deleting everything but the 'save' directory in the 'minecraft' directory, but that didn't help at all.
This is happening to me too on macOS 10.11.6. Seems to be happening with almost all macOS ones, it was working recently then it stopped. Uninstalling and reinstalling both Minecraft and Java has not worked. Same issue, no .version file or directory.Â
After all the similar bug reports, how is it still « Confirmation Status: Unconfirmed » and nobody is assigned to the job? I mean... people just can't play the game. How more urgent does it need to be?
I had this issue after updating to Catalina but it appears to have resolved itself now. FWIW it was only happening on 2017 iMac i5. Updated 2017 i5 MBP to Catalina and had no issues whatsoever.
This issue is resolved in bootstrap versions 598 (MacOS) and 601 (Windows).

Is this still an issue? There was a temporary issue yesterday that might have caused this.
