[MCL-12277] Minecraft Launcher is not starting up

my minecraft launcher does not want to load, whenever i click the icon, it just shows the blue loading wheel and then it does not launch, i dunno what this is, but Mojang, PLEASE FIX IT!

well, i found the problem, read this code:

20-02-2019 10:53:35 - going to update MinecraftLauncher.exe using C:/Program Files (x86)/Minecraft/tmp/tmpLauncher.tmp
Launcher is definitely closed.
Backing up previous version of the launcher...
Previous version has been backed up as MinecraftLauncher.exe.backup.
Installing new version of the launcher...
Moved C:/Program Files (x86)/Minecraft/tmp/tmpLauncher.tmp to MinecraftLauncher.exe successfully.
Removing backup file MinecraftLauncher.exe.backup
Error 5, going for attempt 2...
Removed backup MinecraftLauncher.exe.backup successfully.
Update succeeded!

None of the stupid online solutions worked, Mojang has to fix this, I can't even play Minecraft anymore and I wasted so much energy on updating drivers, uninstall and installing everything.

Have had exactly the same problem for a couple of days now. Tried everything....unintall/reinstall, switching to beta launcher, java update, graphic card driver update, different windows account and clean install...so frustrating. nothing works.

Same here as well... we are running Windows 10 64x. Please note that windows recently updated some framework updates. However, we were having this issue before hand. We uninstalled and re-installed launcher as well as Java. Sounds like I'm not the only one having this issue around the same timeline. Thank you for any updates in this regard.

You are, in fact, using the beta launcher.

This is the same issue as MCL-12279. I'll add a guide on how to work around this issue to that ticket in just a moment.

We have the same issue and I believe we were using the Beta Launcher had issue of the program not opening, then uninstalled/reinstalled launcher... How can you tell whether or not your using beta or regular?

and how do you access launcher_profiles.json?

The beta launcher version is 2.1.7660, while the stable launcher version is 2.1.5964. The version is mentioned in the launcher log, which is why I asked for it.

If your launcher does not start, you're most likely using the beta version of the launcher. Follow the guide from MCL-12279 in order to solve the issue.

I can't help with that I'm afraid, I'm not an expert with malware. Try googling for it, perhaps you'll find something of use on the internet.
