Dear Sir or Madam
So today I tried to open Minecraft and i was greeded with me not being logged in. So I logged in, clicked on play and - nothing. Nothing happens for about 2 mins before I look at the Task Manager to see if and what happened. Nothing Minecraft related pops up in the taskmngr so I try to open the Launcher again and again - nothing. Tried to reinstall Minecraft and Java but nothing helped. After the reinstalation of both MC and Java I finally get an error. "Unable to update Mincraft Runtime Environment". IDK what causes that error. everything worked fine yesterday and now nothing wants to work. \o_O/
Looking forward to hear from you

Dunno about OP's error log, but here's mine! I just installed the current version of Minecraft (my version was from 2013 or so), launched the .msi and it installed properly, then launched the Launcher, and it came back with the exact same error as OP.

So.. thank you @Mystil for providing a log file. (mine was empty for no reason) Nice to see that im not the only one with that problem but by now i fixed it (i just waited a few hrs and did nothing) Idk why it works now... but it does so I wont question it.
btw I used the alternate download even tho that shouldnt change anything because as it looks like the problem isnt the downloading but the "doing whatever has to be done with the files".
In your case it looks like the game cant move the files to the designated location. Might be because of some missing/corrupted registry keys, some disc errors or most likely "just" a permission problem.. (god I wish I had a log file... this is so helpfull lol) but I guess its not my job to figure that out haha. just some ideas I have ^^
So even tho my problem is fixed i´d still love to know how to actually fix this (if it happens again because like I said.. I didnt do a thing and it suddently worked again)

p.s. yeah.... i like to write haha
@LetsDieTonight,
I'm normally a bit of a writer, too, but I really want this fixed so I can play at all today. It's extremely frustrating to want to get back into the game, then be unable to do so.
There's nothing in "C:\Users[USERNAME]\AppData\Roaming\.minecraft"? I had to search my computer for the launcher_log.txt file.
Thank you for your report!
