When I click the launcher shortcut or try launching the exe directly it appears to load for a second and then do nothing without any kind of error message or the application actually starting however MultiMC an unofficial launcher appears to work fine.

Also, if you're using the beta launcher, please check whether the workaround from MCL-12279 solves the issue.
