[MCL-12758] Older Versions crashing immediately upon launch on linux distributions

When I attempt to launch any version of minecraft java edition lower than 1.14.4 the game crashes upon launch. I have tested this on Linux Ubuntu 18.04 and Linux Mint 19.2 Cinnamon, and both have this issue.

UPDATE: I have attempted to load optifine and forge. optifine (1.14.4) worked fine but when i tried forge (1.14.4) it crashed

Also, as you're using Linux: What version of Java did you use to launch Minecraft? Older versions of Minecraft cannot be run by Java 9 or newer.
