Invalid Checksum When Launching Default Minecraft Launcher

When I am playing Minecraft Java version 1.15.2 directly from the Minecraft launcher (downloaded from the Minecraft.net site), I am getting errors like the one seen in the image below.  NOTE:  This seems to have nothing to do with having a 3rd party launcher in the mix, per comments on bugs MCL-13565 and MCL-12890.

Does this happen often or rarely?

I can confirm that this occurs. This happened to me today when I downloaded 20w49a for the first time. The error printed in the game log was:

Download from https://launchermeta.mojang.com/v1/packages/ecd216d8188230180af4163ee4f4901e28acee29/1.17.json had invalid checksum! Expected: ecd216d8188230180af4163ee4f4901e28acee29 got: 93a647ea11066edd31f3a49182e67b993cbbd8ae

(Also, I am using MacOS Catalina, so this isn't limited to only Windows 10.)

This happened to me again today when I downloaded 20w51a for the first time. The error printed in the game log was:

Download from https://launchermeta.mojang.com/v1/packages/e022240e3d70866f41dd88a3b342cf842a7b31bd/1.17.json had invalid checksum! Expected: e022240e3d70866f41dd88a3b342cf842a7b31bd got: b9595f25b9a5aa2a27fb6bcd414604bf5cc4efc0

Since this was reported we've re-crunched the manifest files. I've confirmed that the mentioned versions correctly download and have correct checksums.

If you are experiencing a similar issue in the future, please open a new bug. Attach the following:

  • the file in question that has invalid checksum

  • version_manifest_v2.json which you can find at %AppData%/.minecraft/versions/

Cheers!

If anyone else who was experiencing this issue is still experiencing it, I would appreciate if you would post a comment on MCL-16425 saying that you are still experiencing it.
