Minecraft launcher opens, but when I press "start" it only loads about 2 thirds of the way, then the app closes. When I try to open it a second time it says that it is already open (Which it is not)

Hi Chip, it sounds like Minecraft: Java Edition is crashing for you, and is not fully closing.
Consider starting the game without any mods in case you have any installed. Otherwise see MCL-6550 for possible fixes to your crash.
