Updated Minecraft Launcher on MAC has no game versions available after re-installing.

My Minecraft Launcher was recently updated as of December 2, 2020. This update consisted of the migration from Mojang Accounts to Microsoft Accounts, meaning it had all of the new warning icons on modded profiles and such. I wanted to update to the latest version of Minecraft as my favorite server was scheduled to reset in order to update the game modes into the latest Minecraft version which is 1.16. The server was previously set on 1.12.2, but they wanted to update the game version that it was running on before the year ends.

I started to update my game by firstly installing Forge for 1.16.3. Although, it was recommended that I switch to 1.16.4, seeing that it was apparently the "stable" version of 1.16, and I agreed since I was experiencing a few bugs while using 1.16.3, so I did not hesitate to move to 1.16.4. I deleted my 1.16.3 Forge and Vanilla profile and directly installed Forge 1.16.4 afterwards.

Though, this affected the 'Latest Release' Profile on my Launcher and it was now set on the Forge client that I installed, which I obviously could not edit since it was the main profile that Mojang gives you when you first load up the launcher. I deleted the Forge profile on the launcher as well as the installed Forge client in the 'versions' folder. I did this multiple times, and decided to just switch back to 1.16.3 since this did not have any problems in the launcher.

This is where I made a mistake. I went to the 'versions' folder in my Minecraft Folder and deleted the Forge 1.16.4 folder ALONG with the orginal 1.16.4 folder that was assigned as the 'Latest Release' in the game launcher. When I went to go check, the previously installed 1.12.2 Forge profile that I've installed was the new 'Latest Release'. I realized that I've done goofed and decided to reinstall the entire game overall.

So, I deleted the "minecraft" folder from my Application Support as well as the application itself. I then went to the official Minecraft site to redownload the launcher, and I reinstalled the app. When I opened the app, I logged in as per usual, and I noticed that there were no game versions available, meaning I couldn't launch the game. I've been trying for multiple hours now but still no avail. Is there anything I missed or deleted? or is there anything I can do to restore all of the versions? I looked at the newly installed "minecraft" folder in my Application Support, and there is no "versions" folder. If there is a solution, kindly let me know. I thank you in advance.

Does solution in MCL-14369 fix anything?

Hi Martin, sorry you are experiencing this problem. We are aware of some users ending up in this state, and we are tracking the issue as MCL-14369. Please see that bug or add any additional info if you feel it's missing.

Thanks!

The issue has been sucessfully resolved. I had tried the thing where I had to change my DNS as stated in the similar issue posted. I did not try it before since I was hesitant and was a little anxious to do the DNS change alone since I am no that tech saavy. But it all managed to work out. Thanks for your guys' help. I appreciate it a lot. 😃
