Macbook pro - blank screen on startup

I have read a number of bug reports relating to blank screen on startup but none seems to fix my issue.

I've tried reinstalling, updating graphics drivers, moving launcher and have tried with both Java 1.8 and Java 13 - nothing helps.

I can see that my cursor changes shape when moving across the blank screen indicating that the GUI is there, everything in the window just seems blank.
