My launcher refuses to download more than half the sounds. Have tried everything from rebooting, to uninstalling, to deleting all minecraft files. nothing seems to work.

This issue is due to the instability of the assets servers hosted by Amazon. Dinnerbone tweeted about this not too long ago: https://twitter.com/Dinnerbone/status/401462779695341568
