Java not responding

When I open the Minecraft launcher and start Minecraft, it opens just fine but when Minecraft starts loading for the first time it stops when it's almost done and decides to not respond and when I close the window, the launcher says I encountered a bug. I do have Norton installed but I don't know if that is responsible for this. I was, however, able to play the game for about a week before Java stopped responding though. (screenshots won't load into the attachment slot) :/
