Having the .minecraft folder as a symbolic link pointing to a different drive will result in the launcher not opening

Having the folder in C:\Users\user\AppData\Roaming\.minecraft point to a different drive using a symbolic link results in the launcher not opening.
The symbolic link will work if its located on the same drive

  • Does this issue occur on minecraft.net website/MS store version of the Launcher?

  • Is your Windows and associated apps (Xbox app, MS store) up-to-date?

The issue was happeing on the ms store version of the launcer. I just setup a new junction link linking the folder to a seperate drive and it apperas to now be working as intended

Closing the ticket as 'cannot reproduce' as the reporter fixed the issue.
