What I expected to happen was that the launcher would load like it normally would (the coding comes up then the play button appears which I click etc.)
What actually happens is it just says "Bootstrap (v5)" and doesn't load any more code, I left it for a while but it just stays like that. I have also tried downloading another copy of the Minecraft launcher but it does the exact same thing. It only started today but yesterday I performed a system restore on my laptop which I don't know whether that has affected it or not.
Steps to Reproduce:
1. Load up the Minecraft launcher
2. Wait
3. Notice that it won't load
Uninstall and reinstall Java to the latest version (1.7.0_65 / 1.8.0_11): http://www.java.com/en/download/.
When using a 32-bit browser on a 64-bit operating system the automatic version detection will only show the 32-bit version of Java, the 64-bit version needs to be downloaded manually: http://www.java.com/en/download/manual.jsp.
