I cant use shift for sorting my inventory and the 1.5 inventory sorting does not work

My Minecraft inventory is messed. It takes about 5 minutes on average to sort my inventory now. This is the second time it happened and stays on your game for a few weeks. Reinstalling Minecraft does not work. Shift does not work and the 1.5 inventory sorting update does not work. In creative you cannot take out stacks of stuff. You have to do each one manually.
