as soon as i try to launch minecraft it crashes and says "an unexpected issue has occurred and the game has crashed. we're sorry for the inconvenience"

I also have this problem and I am running on an Acer Windows 10 Laptop with an Nvidia Geforce 940M graphics card.

This is caused by broken Nvidia graphics drivers.
The hotfix of MC-112780 fixes that problem.
