Incredibly low item drop rates

I am playing minecraft offline and am experiencing low drops. For example I chopped 1000 grasses for 80 seeds. I believe that's a .08% drop rate instead of the list 10% After the seeds grow I get 80 wheat and 40-50 seeds. Sheep are non-existent. It took killing
137 spiders to obtain 4 string.
