Hello,
Did a fresh install of minecraft on my laptop, and tested it, before going on vacation to LasVegas. Once here I connect to the hotel (Stratosphere) wireless, and start the launcher only to get a blank screen. The launcher never (waited 10 minutes) draws anything to the window. disconnect from the wireless, and the launcher almost immediately comes up in offline mode.
Now I never really expected to play online, and I realize there is no fixing the Hotels broken Wifi/Firewall/Proxy or whatever is causing this. I do think though the launcher should be able to detect if the communications requirements are incomplete, and drop to offline mode, and/or log a message as to what part of the communications are incomplete.
Testing shows ports 80 and 443 work, not sure what other ports the launcher needs.
Thanks

That's weird. The launcher should have all of the content it needs to render included locally (but I don't 100% know how it works).
Can you attach .minecraft/launcher_log.txt to this report? It hopefully will contain some information that can be used to diagnose this issue.
I've attached the launcher_log.txt. looking at it I don't see a lot in it that is useful. Let me know if there is other info I can gather, I'm here till Sunday.
Some ideas. They won't necessarily help solve the actual problem but they might help you launch the game.
Does it work if you start the launcher without a network connection, and then login after reconnecting? Or does it go blank when you do that?
There is also the older launcher, which can be found on the alternative download page.
I've uploaded a new launcher_log.txt based on the following test.
Disconnect network,Start new launcher,(comes up in offline mode), Logout. Connect network, Login. Results: the login screen stays 'stuck' and won't proceed to online mode... worse now if I start the new launcher it is blank if I'm connected, and needs the login if I'm disconnected, which won't work. As such the new launcher was now pretty much bricked for me.
Now here is the interesting test, downloaded the old laucher, and installed java (required), and not only does it come up in online mode, I was able to attach to a minecraft server.
This would indicate that 80 443 and 25565 are all open and working. I think that may eliminate firewall/proxy from the list of culprits.
FYI logging into the old launcher, did 'unbrick' the new launcher in that it is able to come up in offline mode again.
Still using the old launcher is a workaround and less than ideal. Let me know if there is any more info I can gather to troubleshoot this.
Thanks
PS. Yes I went on Vacation to play minecraft, don't judge me. 😃
