There is a bug in the Minecraft Launcher where it won't allow you to Login with your username, but it does allow you to login with email. This is a problem for un migrated account users, as they might not even know what their old email was. If you can get this problem fixed that will be extremely helpful for Unmigrated account users.

Well my account is unmigrated and it isn't working so I think its a bug still, but thanks for saying for Migrated users. Or if my Minecraft account is hacked,
I checked with a friend who has an unmigrated account; they're able to log in. As such, this issue is Invalid:
This is an account issue. We do not have the tools to help you on this tracker.
Please use the customer support link below. Also check this article on what to do if your account was stolen.
And, a personal note – just migrate your account. For a while I myself held back on doing it, but the added security is very beneficial.

If you're unmigrated, then you sign in with you username (and only your username). But if you're migrated, then you sign in with your email (and only your email); this is the intended behavior.
If your account is migrated, then this is the intended behavior. I don't have an unmigrated account to confirm whether login with unmigrated ones work.
