I was building a small village in a Superflat world, and one of the buildings I created was this (please see attachments). At night (if they couldn’t find a bed) they would all ascend the ladders and get stuck on the open trapdoors until I gave them a nudge towards the center of the ladder(s), but during the day they would just wander cluelessly about the lower level and continually change profession. Also, I have noticed that they have trouble getting to job site blocks using stairs that naturally generate in some Desert Villages.
Thank you so much for your service! Have a great day/night!

First up, villagers don’t have the AI to use ladders, so without another option they will just be stuck downstairs unless they get pushed by another villager into the ladders. Also, currently entities get stuck and can’t walk out if they are in the same space as ladders, so don’t use ladders within the build.
The issue with them having difficulty using stairs (and navigating up and down in general) is something I have ran into (it makes making a vertical crop farm difficult. The best way I can think of to solve this is for villagers to never attempt paths that don’t lead close enough to their destenation (so they don’t get stuck one floor below/above their workstation.
At the moment my best strategy is to selectively use preferred pathfinding blocks to create preferred paths for them.
