Iron golems take damage walking on soul sand

When iron golems walk on soul sand, they take damage for no reason. What is going on here? See photo attached.

Steps to duplicate.
-start a creative world
-place down 6x6 blocks of soul sand
-make villager golem in the middle
The villager golem will start turning red and take damage.
