I was using a crafting table and I was crafting something, but the ingredients appeared dark grey, even though I had them in my inventory. I can still craft items. See screenshots
How to reproduce:
/give @s planks 0 2
/give @s crafting_table
/gamemode 0
Place the crafting table.
Toggle the recipe book so it is on if it is not.
Hover over the recipe for a stick with your mouse/cursor.
Expected results: The ingredients all appear in the crafting grid and have the normal background.
Observed results: They have a red background.
Note: Part of this issue I'm describing has been fixed in 1.16.101 (mentioned by @Math Bjbo.)
Update on this issue:
After 1.16.201 update, the the things that you have in your inventory appear on the crafting table with a dark grey background.

Just realized this is to prevent the previous bug of the new crafting system, where if you scroll through the recipes, it will take your items and give you the ability to pick more up, and if you press X on Xbox, you can view the recipe with the items from your inventory. No longer think this is a bug, unless Mojang intends to change the background color while not moving items from inventory. Glad Mojang is working hard to fix bugs all the time!
Affects Xbox One X 1.16.100.
Grid has red recipe at first, but as soon as you craft 1, items jump up into grid like before the bug was introduced. This makes it no longer red, items have numbers next to them relating to the amount taken from inventory. One item is returned to player when crafted first, or a whole stack if stack crafted. Items used up correctly. Upon viewing a new recipe, the bug returns.
