I checked on my villagers, and there was only one of the 5. I looked around, came back, and there where two more. I did some more looking, came back, and all of my villagers were there. Then, I came back down the next in-game day, and only one villager was there. It was the same villager that was there the first time they disappeared.

I am getting something similar. I have a world in which every time I'm away from my 'home' village for more than a few game days the villagers start disappearing, until eventually there are none left. I have restarted the world many times, built the viallge population up to 20+, all traded with to maximum level, installed a golem. Still, after a months play during which I returned to home base, (just > 64 blocks from the village center) and slept overnight, probably every 3rd or 4th game day, all my villagers have gone. Checking back through my backups, (I copy the world every 'real' day I play) the attrition has been steady over the month.
Looking on the web it seems like this bug has been around for a very long time. It makes me want to stop playing. How can you get any sense of achievment in the game when a stoopid coding error wipes it all out?
