When I try to rename any item in an anvil it doesn't come out as a renamed item it comes out as a blank slot.
Steps to reproduce:
Open Minecraft
Enter Split-Screen mode
Put any item in the first slot of an anvil
Rename the item.
Nothing happens...
Observed Results:
In the slot next to the arrow there isn't anything.
Expected Results:
The renamed item appears in the slot to the right of the arrow

Does not work for shulker boxes either. Tested in both survival and creative. I was trying to get the organizational wizard achievement by naming a shulker box, but I could not rename it. However, tools and armor can still be renamed.
I found a workaround for naming name tags that works on PS4/5 Bedrock.
Need 1 anvil, 2 name tags, 1 level of XP
Put one name tag in the first slot of the anvil
Put the second name tag in the second slot of the anvil (after the + sign)
Enter the name for the name tag; Select Done
Take the second name tag out of the second slot
Named tag should be available to take out of the 3rd slot (after the arrow) for a cost of 1 XP

I can confirm it is fixed on Nintendo Switch I am not sure if it is still a bug on any other platform. On PS4 I was in split-screen mode when I noticed this bug a while back.
I also can confirm that this bug happens when you rename any item on ps4 using an anvil on split-screen mode
