World loads but buttons don't, can still interact with world

I opened up minecraft and started playing on a world. The world loaded but the hotbar, player hand, and other on-screen buttons did not. I could move around, but not do anything else. I tried multiple worlds but got the same result. The weird thing is, some of the buttons were just invisible. The buttons up the top of the screen still worked and so did the ones to move around, but are very difficult to find.
