Whenever I am on an online server and I decide to change to a custom skin uploaded from my phone, when I select the skin, it displays the loading screen before it prompts me to select the type of skin that I want (slim arms or steve arms). But before it can display that prompt, the game forcibly removes me from the online server and takes me back to the server select screen in the main menu.

Nope, this is a standalone issue. I can't change skins whatsoever in online servers without being kicked off of it. Every time I select the skin from my photos it comes up with that white loading bar screen where it says 'MINECRAFT' on it with the bar underneath, then before the prompt comes up where it tells me which arms do I want to select, it instead comes up with the 'loading' 'loading resources' and 'done' loading screens. Then it puts me back out to the server select screen.
What device are you using exactly, and what OS version?
