When removing all characters from an item to attempt to rename it to something else, any characters will be converted into hashtags. I don't know if this bug is specifically on Realms or just all of Bedrock, but I would assume it's all of Bedrock.

The same issue is happening to me where I can’t rename anything in my anvil in a realm I have recently purchased and I also can’t write on signs

Got the same issue going on as well, started happening about 3 or so days ago when I went to name something and it was just all hashtags. Happens to any item I place on the anvil.

So I just recently experienced this issue myself, and after searching through a lot of vague posts I found a solution. Someone referred to it as a "shadow mute", but the solution is to try typing random individual letters or numbers until other players can see your text. Weird enough this bug or mute causes others to also not see what you're typing. Once I typed "1" and sent, it immediately fixed everything.
