On my account I have had a problem when I try to activate the nether portal. I am familiar with the concept of the dimensions of said portal and how it's supposed to operate. I have tried to create it in different worlds all have the same problem. I tried to create it in different modes all have the same problem. I even used the reference books to make sure I was doing it right but to no avail it still would not light. All that happens is it catches fire and burns.

Update it seems the only variable affected is the world type (old, infinite,flat) my world is set to old but even the end is not available. Please let me know if I'm not the only one affected by this

In old type world Nether and End can't be accessed. You need to convert your world to infinite type to access them.
