Hello,
When i play on my laptop i haven't got great hand-eye co-ordination. I use my Xbox controller instead.
When something happens. Such as, The laptop dying and turning back on. When the laptop goes to sleep and turns back on while Minecraft is running. The controller will stop responding. It will work via the game bar but the game itself will not respond to the controller. However, the keyboard and mouse respond just as normal.
I have tried several fixes. I can't seem to find any that work other than restarting the game. This fixes it. However, it does happen again under the conditions i have described above ^^
I'm unsure if this happens in the vanilla version. I cannot check this as when i leave the beta and re-join. My beta worlds are no longer present. I wish not to lose these ones 🙂
(The last issue i posted got delayed getting posted so someone managed to report it before me, i have searched the database and cannot find any issues regarding this)

Is this still an issue in the latest version? If so, can you please add it to the affected versions (or mention it if you are not the reporter).

I have just changed it. I believe it is the latest one.
I just checked and i'm on 1.17.20.20. I'll change the above now ^^
It is still an issue. It's also changed to when i exit the game. To check my facebook messages while playing. I come back and when i do. It freezes. I need to close the game and re-open to fix

While not the initial reporter of this issue, I can confirm that it is still present in version 1.18.31. The only way to get Minecraft to once again recognize the controller is to quit out completely and re-launch the game.

I just had it happen in 1.19.22
I was playing on a private server, and as before once the controller input stopped being accepted I had to close the game and relaunch it before the controller was recognized.
I could not reproduce the issue on my laptop and using an Xbox controller. I waited for the laptop to run out of battery while the game was on, I turned it off by closing the laptop and by pressing the off button. Every time I did these, I needed to press the xbox button on the controller to connect because it is turning off by default when it is not used, but it connected right away after that.
For anyone still experiencing the issue, what is your controller that you use to play, its model and how do you connect to the pc/laptop (by a cable or by bluetooth)?
I play with a Xbox Wireless Controller – Grey/Green - Microsoft connected via bluetooth to a Surface Book 2. The issue is very erratic for me - sometimes I can play for hours without problem, sometimes it will happen multiple times within 15 minutes.
I really wish I had solid reproduction steps for you, but I have not seen any pattern yet.
Edit to give an update on the randomness of it all - after playing for a couple of weeks without issue I've just had 3 controller freezes in an hour. As has been noted before, the computer still recognizes the controller but Minecraft no longer does. Closing and reopening Minecraft fixes the issue.
