Cursor on the maps isn't there, there is not cursor ! (I have just created the map)

To add the cursor, you need to:
1) open an anvil
2) Put the map into one slot
3) Put a compass into the other slot
4) Take the upgraded map
5) Your map now has a cursor!

This works by design. If you want the cursor to show on the map you need to upgrade it using an anvil. You just craft the map with a compass.
