Stuck swimming down/falling issue

The problem of crouching when swimming

i was playing my minecraft world, and i live on an island so i swim a lot.  when you swim around and then go down with crouch (spam to see if that works). then you should not be able to swim up for the duration of swimming. this is super annoying and i almost drowned multiple times.

steps to reproduce:

  1. open a world on the bedrock nintendo switch edition.

  2. find a large ocean.

  3. swim using crouch for a while.

  4. observe that you cant swim up until stoping.

this is my first report so it's a little new to me being in new territory after looking at bugs for months. this was happening for a while but i just signed in, and also if you need gameplay its closer to 1.17.

Sorry if its a duplicate but the one i found is solved and too old. either its reopened, or this is a new issue with swimming since th older one is before swimming.

still effects 1.17 but only tested in creative.

effects survival almost died.

Is this still an issue in the latest version?
I could not reproduce. Have you tried to reproduce it on other platforms, if possible?

I just nearly died swimming in circles because "crouch" got stuck on, underwater, and I couldn't ascend. I had to dig a hole at the level I was at, to refill my breath, and stand on something solid, before I could use jump/ascend or crouch/descend. I have noticed that the "crouch" is very buggy, I almost never crouch upon pressing the button the first time, and have to literally mash it two or three times to get a result, after which, it stays stuck on even if pressing jump/ascend, and requires frantic button-mashing to get my character to stop crouching.

This makes navigating scaffolding useless, but gets dangerous underwater, every time I press alt underwater (I rebound the key to ensure it was not my keyboard) I am worried that I will get stuck and be unable to ascend or descend. Ruining the game for me. Running Minecraft for Windows 10 on an Acer laptop. Happens in multiplayer, and offline singleplayer.

Another unique behavior I found was if you break the block you are "standing" on while in this crouch-swim, your movement will freeze completely. This only happens if you are holding jump, otherwise you will continue sinking very quickly and moving in other ways normally. In this frozen state, letting go of space will return you to crouch-swim state

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Enter crouch-swim as above
2. Sink to the bottom such that you are "standing" on a block. (This works best if there is a block with an exposed edge, since you need to be holding a movement direction, and the sneak-swim will not let you fall of that edge)
3. Hold jump
4. Break the block
5. You are now frozen in place underwater while holding jump and some movement direction.

Affects Version 1.19.20 and earlier.

@Netheritedrifter Could you please add the versions 1.18.10 - 1.19.20 to the affected versions and change the platform to 'multiple'?

Since @Netheritedrifter doesn't seem to be active anymore, I'd be willing to take ownership of this ticket.

Considering how long the bug has not been updated, is this still an issue?

@v-magwar Yes, it is still an issue as of version 1.19.51.
