Space bar key (for jumping) does not work after opening a GUI

When I tried out playing the game using a connected keyboard on my android tablet, it works just fine, however, if I open a GUI such as the the chat, and then go back to the game, I can no longer use the spacebar to jump. I tried to go to the settings and see if I can reset the keybind for the spacebar, so I changed it to another key, then changed it back. When I tried to change it back however, it seems that the game does not register the spacebar stroke at all. The only way I can fix this is restart the game.

Additional information from MCPE-221610 :

Steps to Reproduce:

  1. Open Minecraft Bedrock Edition on an Android device (e.g. Samsung Galaxy Tab S10 Ultra)

  2. Connect a physical keyboard (wired or Bluetooth)

  3. Enter any single-player world

  4. Open chat (T) or place a sign and type something

  5. Exit the input box

  6. Try to jump using the spacebar

Expected Result:
After exiting any text input field (chat, sign, book, etc.), all keys should remain responsive, including the spacebar for jumping.

Actual Result:
The spacebar becomes completely unresponsive. Jumping no longer works. Other keys like WASD and Enter still work, which proves the game is still receiving input.
The bug can only be temporarily fixed by:

  • Switching to another app and returning

  • Restarting Minecraft

  • Unplugging and replugging the keyboard

  • Rebinding the “Jump” action to a different key like R or Alt

Device:
Samsung Galaxy Tab S10 Ultra
Samsung Book Cover Keyboard
USB-C mouse

Is this still an issue in the latest version (1.17.10)? If so, can you please add it to the affected versions (or mention it if you are not the reporter).

Just saw M0F0's comment, and yes, this does work, with some minor tweaks.

The reason I say this is because when I only used Gboard and no other settings, certain characters I typed like "l" would make the message glitch and type the wrong things. Every time. So, I found some settings that fix this.

•First, install Gboard.

•Go to settings, then general management, and change the default keyboard from Samsung keyboard to Gboard.

•Then, while still in the general management area, click physical keyboard and turn the toggle off for the setting titled "show on-screen keyboard."

•Finally, exit the physical keyboard section and, while still in general management, click spelling correction and change it to Gboard.

This should work. If not, please comment. Thanks!

Glad I was able to help.  Would be good to know if others can verify it's Samsung Keyboard related too.

I also was able to work around this by using Gboard, but I don't want to use Gboard. What virtual keyboard I use should have no bearing on how my PHYSICAL keyboard performs in Minecraft. When the bug is manifesting, space works fine after all – as long as I'm not trying to use it to jump.

You can also work around this problem by retraining yourself completely to use a different jump key – since if you use say, "B" to jump, this bug doesn't occur. Needless to say that is a terrible solution.

The only way I have found as a temporary fix other than Gboard is to have someone send you a text or a notification you can type in. Then type in the quick reply box and swipe back to the game and then you can jump again. It is very annoying though.
