Dyeing a shulker box directly from the recipe book causes items inside to disappear

When I made my shulker white, all of my items disappeared from it and I lost many hours of work.

Steps to Reproduce:

1. Obtain a shulker box, dye, and pickaxe

2. Place the shulker box

3. Put some items inside of it

4. Switch to Survival mode

5. Mine the shulker box

6. Dye the shulker box directly from the recipe book

7. Place the shulker box
