When I return home from the Nether, a new nether portal is generated in a random place in the middle of an empty field. It's the same place every time, but I never return through the Nether portal I came in through.
I only have one nether portal in my game, I should both go and return through the same portal, but every single time I return it respawns a new one - which basically gives me unlimited obsidian because all I have to do is break down the portal, go back to the nether, come home, and then break the newly spawned portal.
Attached image shows my portal I enter. (There is a backing to it, I have removed the entire diorite backside but it doesn't fix the issue.) The second picture, (portal2) is where I return. As you can see, I had come back previously and there's a portal left over from last time. It just keeps generating new ones.

I play on the Nintendo Switch and traveling through my Nether Portal into the Overworld created a new Overworld portal which dumped me out into the middle of the ocean.

Did you make sure your nether portals were linked? If not I suggest looking up how to link nether portals and this should fix the issue.

I have 2 portals. One in the nether. One in the overworld. They should connect automatically.
I understand if I had multiple portals to connect them to each other but I have one portal only. It should go to the nether and come right back - I shouldn't have to figure out how to link them. They have always linked automatically. Thank you for your feedback, I appreciate learning a fix so I can fix my current world at least.
But this is definitely a bug considering they should automatically connect to each other. I've never had this problem until this world I just created.

Please see the linked ticket for a brief explanation of portal linking. If you believe your issue is different, please provide exact coordinates of all of the portals and how they seem to connect.

Thank you for your report!
