If ,while in an old style world, you enable the caves and cliffs experimental toggle then the game will mess up your chunks on the edge of your world. I believe this is caused by the game attempting to smoothen out the terrain between old and new chunks but that is unacceptable as it completely destroyed some of my underground builds and entities.
I have attached a copy of my world below.
To replicate this bug download the world and see what the perimeter looks like. Take special note of the underground area at the southeast corner of the map and the crop farm at the east edge.
Then activate the caves and cliffs toggle and see the destruction

As of version 1.17.41 this is no longer an issue.
