Lost my items when i went through the endportal(the portal from the end that goes to the overworld) and died at the same time

To reproduce the bug you have to go into the end and kill the ender dragon so the portal opens and then go through it while dying st the same time. Then I clicked respawn and my game froze when it said generating world so I left minecraft and reopened. When I got back into my world i didnt have my items on me or near me on the ground and when I went to the end again my items weren't there. What should have happened was my items would have went through the portal or stayed in the end so i can pick it up and not vanish.
